Hey Whitney! I like how you correlated the article to what we learned in the Hi Phi Nation Podcast. Public welfare offenses are definitely interesting in that sense. It kind of reminds me how we learned about laws that are made to criminalize people. As you say, I feel like all laws are put into place to promote public health and safety yet some go over the line. For example as you mentioned a homeless person urinating in public- they have nowhere else! It is crazy that our criminal justice system seems to disregard a lot of its discrepanices. As Bergelson also states, 2-5% of prisoners are innocent. I know it is nearly inevitable, but I wish the system was built in a way that made incriminating innocent people impossible.
